![]() Due to its customizability, it would be strange if it didn’t offer you a chance to make a unique photo collage. People who do tutorials should really do them from the assumption that people are not as familiar with the program as they are, hence they are not the ones doing the tutorials.Gimp is one of the most popular open-source photo editing software. GIF file and I was hopeful I could with this, but it didn't even include "matterOFfact" font (which is the text I need for this) and I thought this would be the "fix" for that. I downloaded GIMP because CS2 apparently cant put a fade in and fade out text on an existing. It seems like it should work but there's no illustration of the letters looking anything like the faded ones I'm trying to work with. The text ends up being too big for the page and when I set it to something reasonable (50px) the gaussian blur applied 3x makes the text so faded that no amount of twerking the color/curves in alpha does anything to make it any darker (btw "center" means top center? bottom center? the center of the center line?). I can follow most of the directions except to set the initial text at 140px and the line at -15 doesn't seem to make any sense at all. I'm honestly lost on this from the start. Set the layers mode to “Hard light” and you get nice dark blood ) height: 0,05įor the Materials tab choose the values of the picture (they are in the same order in the english version of Gimp) As bumpmap choose the channel we just created. The duplicated layer should now be all gray.įilters / Lights and Shadow / Lighing Effects. Filter / Gaussian Blur 4 times with these values: 10px, 6px, 3 and finally 1 px.Ĭlick the visibility (eye icon) of the channel to make it invisible.Ĭhange to the layers dialog, click the duplicated blood layer. Add a new channel: “Initialize from selection”.Ĭlick the channel in the channels dialog, then go to Select / None. Then click the Channels dialog (Dialogs / Channels). Rightclick in the layers dialog “Selection from Alpha”. If you want to look the text even more like blood follow these steps:ĭuplicate the layer with the blood and click the “Lock”-Button in the layers dialog (it is found above the layers). If your satisfied with the result you’re done ) You should the have a result of something like that: To do this move the mouse (while holding down the mousebutton) from top to bottom until you find it thin enough. Now shrink the middle parts of the lines so that they become much thinner. They should look like drops in the end, do this with the same teqchnique as with the exitpoints.Īfter that use “shrink”. The next step are the endings of the lines. The hard edges look more as they would have been a part of the text. Click and hold your mouse down at the exitpoint of the blood of the text and make small circular movements. Choose “grow”.Īll Work is done in the preview-window of this filter: Now first work on the area where the ‘blood’ is coming out of the text and running down. To make the lines look like a part of the text we use the Liquify-Filter. The Text and the lines should then be on a single layer. Do this a few times as seen on the image below.Īfter being satisfied with the lines click “Merge down” by clicking right in the layers dialog. (You get exact lines when clicking a single dot someqhere into the text – this is the starting point – then hold SHIFT and set the endpoint). Make sure the color is the same as before #870000. Do this until you have nice rounded off corners.Ĭreate a new layer and choose the pencil-tool. You’ll see immideate changes in the picture. Move the point at the bottom to the middle, do so with the point that is at the top right. ![]() ![]() Choose Colors / Curves, top left choose Alpha as channel. These are the quick steps to get rounded corners on this text: We’ve a seperate tutorial for the rounded corners-technique. The blood looks simply better when your text has rounded corners. After this the text cannot be changed because it is rendered. Write one or two words with a sans-serif-font (i.e. I'm going to demonstrate this by creating a blood text. Motivation In this tutorial I show you how you can liquify / smelt text or other graphical objects.
